Fallen branches, bamboo
As a visiting artist with toddlers and pre-school students at the Cambridge Ellis School, we collaborated on the creation of an evolving tree. First, a percussive tree with bamboo chimes for the children to make sounds with, and second, students added birdfood and their signature fabrics to the bamboo to transform it into a giant personalized bird feeder. After winter, once the birds eat all the seeds, it turns back into an instrument. This is installed in the school playground for students to play with, and look for evidence of birds and other wildlife.
